All Alone: A Poignant Exploration of Rural Isolation through Film and Music
The Courthouse Gallery & Studios is delighted to present All Alone, a new film and sound project by award-winning filmmaker and Ennistymon resident, Anne Maree Barry. This immersive film, set against the stunning backdrop of Ennistymon and Lahinch, runs from September 28th to October 26th, 2024, in the Red Couch Space.
Inspired by Barry’s own experiences with rave culture on Red Rock Beach, Howth Head, and incorporating archival footage from the Irish Film Archive and Paddy O’Neill, All Alone offers a haunting reflection on rural loneliness and the search for connection. The film is visually underscored by scenes from Garland Sunday in Lahinch, a feast day with pagan roots, offering a stark juxtaposition of vibrant community and solitary introspection.
The film is accompanied by a pop song, also titled All Alone, which was composed by Enda Gallery and features lyrics and vocals by Anne Maree Barry, alongside fiddle contributions by Aindrias de Staic. Together, the music and film create a melancholic, yet captivating, narrative about isolation in post-pandemic rural Ireland.
Anne Maree Barry: A Unique Cinematic Voice
Anne Maree Barry has established herself as a distinctive filmmaker whose works merge personal narrative with broader social commentary. A resident studio artist at the Courthouse Gallery & Studios, Barry’s films are known for their exploration of memory, space, and the human experience. Her latest work, All Alone, is no exception, reflecting both her artistic growth and her intimate connection to the community of Ennistymon.
