"Overgrowth" Fiona Cawley
Oil on Canvas, 60x50cm
Fiona Cawley is a painter based in Kinvara, Co. Galway, whose work weaves together landscape, figurative, and narrative elements. Born in Sligo and raised in Mayo, she graduated with a BA in Art & Design from ATU Galway in 2015. Cawley’s art explores themes of rural isolation and climate change’s impact on the land, often through semi-abstract depictions of the west of Ireland’s bogs, farms, and shoreline. She builds up rich textures in paint to convey a sense of place and atmosphere, as seen in her solo exhibition “A Shared Space” (2020) and other shows. A member of the Kinvara Area Visual Arts group, Cawley exhibits regularly and contributes to the contemporary dialogue on environment and community in Irish art.
