Emily McCulla is an American-born artist who has made the Burren in County Clare her home and muse since 2013. A BFA graduate of Louisiana State University, she was so inspired by the Burren’s rugged limestone landscape and Atlantic light during a study-abroad semester that she moved permanently to the west of Ireland after college. McCulla’s oil and acrylic paintings channel the stark contrasts of the Burren – gray limestone against green fields, sudden shifts of weather and light, and abundant wildlife – seeking to convey the beauty, drama, and texture of daily life in that unique terrain. Her work is a conversation with place, reflecting deep appreciation for the natural environment of her adopted home.
